Remembering Manzanar

After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States government forced nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans to move to one of ten internment camps because of fear of espionage or sabotage. The Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of these camps located in the Owens Valley in California.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 tsp Castor Sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 lb currents
  • Fresh Nutmeg to taste
  • Milk as needed
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  • Combine dry ingredients
  • Add wet ingredients and combine in food processor
  • Roll out dough on a non-stick surface
  • Cut the cookies into shape and place them on a warm griddle
  • When they begin to sweat they are ready to flip
  • Brown each side to taste then cool
