MiND CELEBRATES SAKURA SUNDAY

Join us in Fairmount Park for a spring celebration of Japanese arts and culture! Sakura Sunday is a day full of spectacular sights and performances with plenty of hands-on fun.  Be Sure to visit MiND TV where we will have pop-quizzes for prizes!

In addition to the main stage performances by Tamagawa Taiko Drum & Dance, Sakura Sunday features a range of activities to be enjoyed by the entire family:

• Demonstrations: Karate, Swordcutting, Origami, Tea Ceremony
• Workshops: Calligraphy, Go (Penn Go Society) & other Japanese Crafts
• Zenkaikon Cosplay Fashion Show: Anime fans will show off their crafting and costume skills as they become their favorite characters.
• Prettiest Pet in Pink Parade: Cats and Dogs are invited to don their best pink costume and join the Sakura Sunday festivities. Owners will parade with their pets around the sundial for a panel of judges. Registration opens at 11:00 am and only the first 12 registrants will be able to participate.
• Harajuku Fashion Show: Area students will show off their hottest fashions inspired by the unique eccentricity of Tokyo’s Harajuku district.
• Kamishibai Story Time: Shofuso’s talented storytellers will ride around the grounds with their bicycle-mounted stage to share the story of “Momotaro, the Peach Boy.”  Listen to the tale of the friendly and generous boy born from a peach pit and receive a Kamishibai sticker!

The Food Revolution is on MiND TV - Free Community Screening Event! 
This August, the theme on MiND TV is “The Food Revolution!”. What’s revolutionary about food you ask? People everywhere are shopping local, eating organic when possible, questioning the system and are caring about their health, and the health of the planet. All of these things are revolutionary in our culture of fast food, industry farming and obesity. This month, tune in to learn more about where your food comes from, and to hear stories about local farming and farmers markets, neighborhoods getting healthier, Philadelphia teens learning agriculture to provide local food in their communities, and more!
