This person is responsible for the development, workshopping, completion and delivery of a wide range of segments that may include expert interviews, scripted segments featuring actors / celebrities/ puppets, written essays (penned by original characters), and other editorial support (as well as some business development and marketing support). The successful candidate will balance production skills with interest in editorial content development: the job will involve both activities in roughly equal measure.

Key Responsibilities (a list that will evolve over the project):

  • Deliver first-class examples of segments and portions of complete episodes of an innovative new transmedia learning concept. (In this usage, transmedia includes video, graphics, written material, interactive games, maps and more.)
  • Close collaboration with other staff members; supervise interns; take care of the many details involved in transmedia production including technical, editorial accuracy, editorial balance, consistent design, development and implementation of new processes, technical coordination.
  • Lots of iteration: many versions, considerable testing and reworking to get the concepts right.
  • Work very closely with the CEO and supervising producer, with freelance writers, and also with outside vendors in design, technology, game / app development, business development, public relations, and more.
  • Keep everything moving; help to build a positive, productive culture that balances humor, creativity, quality, serious attention to important social issues, with an extreme focus on detail.

Key Skills:

  • Build transmedia segments and other assets involving video, audio, interactive media, design, editorial, and preferably, some comedy, music and games.
  • Comfortable in a video shoot and edit environment.
  • Works quickly and efficiently; can achieve fast turnarounds on a very small budget.
  • Flexible, forward-thinking approach to developing and producing new ideas.
  • High comfort level with technology, systems thinking, design thinking; familiarity with and interest in new trends in learning and cognitive science.
  • Organization and communication skills at a very high level.
  • Very capable visual communicator, comfortable with interactions with wide range of professionals.
  • Superior writing and editing skills.

  • B.A., B.S. or graduate degree in English, journalism, or other discipline with heavy research and writing for consumer audiences.
  • Employment history includes at least two editorial and/or writing roles in creative media or marketing environment, preferably with some projects related to learning.
  • 3-5 years work experience.
  • Competencies include proficiency with video production.

Timeframe:  3 month commitment, with a strong possibility of an extension, beginning as soon as possible.
